Mold affects over 100 million Americans every year either through health problems, property damage or both. In fact, emerging medical research has linked mold to the most prevalent long term illnesses in America including asthma, allergies and chronic sinusitis, not to mention the countless other health conditions that mold exposure either causes or aggravates.
There is pending legislation in 20 states that will mandate mold inspections as part of the real estate transfer process. The laws that are pending or enacted also call for licensing and a separation between the mold inspection companies and the mold remediation companies that clean it up.
There are national players already in the mold remediation space; names like ServPro, ServiceMaster and Paul Davis Restoration just to name a few. Currently, the mold inspection business is a cottage industry comprised of mom and pop operations. Not even a regional player exists at this time.
