Separate Systems was formed as a D.B.A. of Sig and Pat Hofland in January 1978 and incorporated in 1981. The company was located in San Diego, California.
One of the first projects was to automate an industrial linen supply company to handle all of the process control of the facility from sorting of linen to moving 100 pound bags on an overhead monorail system to tunnel washers and then to dryers. The system incorporated four work stations running under a multi-user platform. The cost of this project was $250,000.
