Description: My name is ShaRone Holmes. The Holmes Youth Organization is is a direct response to the growing number of young people that are falling through the cracks at school, foster homes or the juvenile court system. The goal of the program is to provide a positive support system to avoid pitfalls that can derail their lives. There will be three distinct mentoring programs: The Tree branch, Turn around and Above Water programs. Although each program is different the goal still remains the same: we will educate, explore and assist our youths through their journey to adulthood. The Holmes Youth Organization will educate young girls 11-17 years of age on various social concerns. We will discuss the importance of abstinence, sexually transmitted diseases, duties and lasting effects of becoming an unwed/teen parent, obesity/anorexia, pride in ones self and personal maintenance. In our exploration phase we will broaden the horizons of our youths. The final phase of the Holmes Youth Organization is to assist. We will teach the girls to invest in their future and the stock market. This phase will consist of career researching, job shadowing, and college tours. We will also teach check book balancing, job readiness skills and provide homework help and tutoring. Ultimately, I chose Dougherty County because of the history that I have established there. The Holmes Youth Organization is going to be deeply routed within the community. I am aware of the Network Of Trust program. I think it is a great idea however a little too late. They only work with young girls who are already pregnant or a teen parent. I would like to catch the young girls before they go down this path. Although I am the executive director, I will personally be involved. It is truly my belief that these young girls still have a chance and I plan to help them find their way. We are opening the program to any young girl (11-17) who wishes to apply however we are specifically targeting the at-risk young women. The ones who are frequently being suspended or have been expelled. The young girls who are in and out of the juvenile justice system as well. We are targeting those young women to the program specifically. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration, ShaRone Holmes Holmes Youth Organization
